Lightbulb Connection Speeds / Qualities

This Suggestion Is small and can be easily implemented into the game (I think).
At the moment, we have a small pea sized circle, for telling us how good our connections is (It changes from Green to Amber, to Red... depepnding on how fast the connection is)

I think we should be able to "Ctrl+Click" the little button, so that in the chat log, it come up as something like this.

"My current connections rate is 27 and this is a good connection" (and maybe the writing could come up different colours depending on the colour of you conection speed icon)

Or something like that..

It is something that my Guild Members and I have been discussing alot recently, and so, I'm trying to do something about it.
It is a small feature but it would be very useful, so you could tell people if you are lagging.

Thankyou, and I hope los of people on these forums will agree with me

Hopefully we will be seeing this withing the next month/two months (depending on how fast the people at ArenaNet Work)

Thanks again...

Is there a point to having such a feature?

The only possible readon to add so it to 'find the culprit' when party lags and mosters blink all over the place.

People ping the connection... and the one with less than 200 gets out of the party after next run...

Yes, there is...
I find that very often, my connection speed varies throughout the day. and often, I don't have "blinding" internet speeds like all of us do, but If I could tell people what internet connection I have/how good it is, it will mean that they have a better understanding of me...

So called "Vet's" (Guild Wars Veterans) Are often prone to thinking that the only thing that metters is : being good... They don't understand the conept of people playing the game to have fun, they are usually just interested in themselves, and making sure they "lvl" their charcter fast, or make lots of money... I consider this type of "veteran" to be in the same social class as scammers..
The GAME is there to be PLAYED not just idol'd over.
People play the game to have fun... this thread was really just to make a point, about slef centred people who don't give a damn about other people's playing experience...
I mean, SURE we all want to level up our charcyters fast (I for one, am Stuggling to level up my dervish atm... and I would give ANYTHING to get more gold/levels/items...

People who chuck other people out of their party, because of connection speed / lagging.... are usually too self absorbed for the game..

please.. don't act n00bish
act friendly...

and PLAY the game...
play = be at play; be engaged in playful activity; amuse oneself in a way characteristic of children; "The kids were playing outside all day"; "I used to play with trucks as a little girl"
not... obsess over gold, or who is the most powerful, or WHO HAS THE BEST CONNECTION SPEED...
if you are lagging, chill out, it's probably the ammount of people on the GW servers that are causing it !

Also... a little tip for people that usually hve terrible loading times/lagg
what you ought to do is this :

Make a second Icon for starting up Guild Wars on you desktop (presuming you allready have one)... leave one of them completely normal... but the other one, you will change a bit.

In the one the you are going to change lets presume it's called "Shortcut to Guild Wars (2)"
you need to Right click it... then click "properties"
once the properties tab is opened click on "shortuct" (the middle tab at the top)
then you will see a box that says "Target" and an address field to the right of it. It should look something like this :

Target: "C:\Game Files\Guild Wars\Gw.exe"

(although, the address might be different)

now... to the end of this address you need to add[ -image]
so, that is a *space* the a "-" (hyhen) and then the word image.

so, for me it now looks like this

"C:\Game Files\Guild Wars\Gw.exe" -image

(yes, the speech marks(quotes) need to be there)(in case you were wondering)

once you have clicked this icon, it will download the whole game and any new updates onto your computer... the first tim you do it, it will take around 6 hours (on an average connection speed (800kbps))
you can of course do it in chunks...
(turn on your computer... and download the stuff, for an hour or two, then turn off your computer... then, next time you run it, it will continue from where you were last...)
once you have downloaded all of this info, all places will be downloaded (no excruciated waiting for new area's or outposts... the whole GAME will be downloaded onto your computer)..
I do also sugest that you run it before you go on guild wars (every time) so that you download all new updates very quickly..

as I said... this means that if you are going to a new town or outpost or area tha you have never been to before... all your computer has to do, is get the info from your hard drive, instead of searching on the GW servers.

This is a very long winded explanation, but it will help donwload times alot...

ENJOY !

Using the -image command line is not highly recommended.

It should be used only when updates, and not used as the usual link.

And in the European version, you'll download all languages and all audio, so I don't think most people would like that, because it could increase your gw.dat size from 4Gb to 7Gb.

LOL yeah right... i do -image after every update and my gw dat is under 3g ...

I think the latency clicky would be cool but ppl will spam it so ... a 5/10 sec delay between clicks will be good.

example:

I think it's a good thing to add. Everything else is ctrl-clickable on that screen so why not the ping. Yes, people will abuse it at times, but it's no different than the current idiots in your party that spam...

"Wammo Noob is wielding a Fiery Dragon Sword and a tower shield"
"Wammo Noob is wielding a Fiery Dragon Sword and a tower shield"
"Wammo Noob is wielding a Fiery Dragon Sword and a tower shield"
"Wammo Noob is wielding a Fiery Dragon Sword and a tower shield"
"Wammo Noob is attacking Shadow Monk"
"Wammo Noob is attacking Shadow Monk"
"Wammo Noob is attacking Shadow Monk"
"Wammo Noob is attacking Shadow Monk"
"Wammo Noob is attacking Shadow Monk"
"Wammo Noob is attacking Shadow Monk"
"Wammo Noob is attacking Shadow Monk"
"Wammo Noob is attacking Shadow Monk"

<Wammo Noob has now stopped attacking and is now scribbling all over the map in crayon>

<end rant>

Excuse Me !? MithranArkanere I Don't Think You Have Actually Read All Of The Conversation Through, or else you just aren't thinkin about what you've read rationally.

If you had read the article about the "-image" switch, then you would have read that I had said "make 2 icons" I may not have made it totally clear that you should use one for updating and one for running the program. However, I think that if people are logical enough to read, then they would be logical enough to work that out. < not a direct insult, I just wish you would think things through a bit better.
Also, 7Gb ?.... dude you must have a seriously mucked up system if it says that... I doubt you have even used that 'switch' considering you condone it so much. (dronex... thankyou for pointing that out previously to this post that I am writing atm)
Besides.. even if it does donwload all of the other languages, is that really a bad thing ?
I've heard on another GW news fansite that they will be including all the languages in an update soon anyway... so, I'm fine with downloading all the languages now... so I don't have to in the future !

In response to dronex, and the raven... I agree with your posts about possible spamming of the chat log...
I believe that all messages that have the same (or similar) wording should not be allowed to be resent for 20-30 seconds... but that people should be allowed to send different messages
e.g.
Bob The Monkey : Hi Guys How Are you ?
Richard The Pilchard : Fine thnx
Bob The Monkey : What are you up to ?
Richard The Pilchard : Scrimaging Dark Lord Seth
Dark Lord Seth : Scrimaging Me
Bob The Monkey : Oh cool, can I come and scrimage with you aswell ?
Richard The Pilchard : Sure
Dark Lord Seth : Uhh, I supose ^^

^stuff like that is fine ^

but definately not
Bob The Monkey : Hi Guys How Are you ?
Bob The Monkey : Hi Guys How Are you ?
Bob The Monkey : Hi Guys How Are you ?
Bob The Monkey : Hi Guys How Are you ?
Bob The Monkey : Hi Guys How Are you ?
Bob The Monkey : Hi Guys How Are you ?
Bob The Monkey : Hi Guys How Are you ?
Richard The Pilchard : STOP with the spamming
Bob The Monkey : Hi Guys How Are you ?
Bob The Monkey : Hi Guys How Are you ?
Bob The Monkey : Hi Guys How Are you ?

This goes for all spamming
ESPECIALLY WTB or WTS !

and... just to note again : Where the HELL did you get 7Gb from ?

anyway... enough about spamming and the '-image' thing

[/rant]

I was just wondering if it would be a good idea to have a "chat" panel in loading screens... so that If you are loading then you can tell people how far your bar has gone so that they know how long ur gonna be?
ok, maybe not an actual chat window... but it's be cool tobe able to Ctrl+click on the loading bar, so that you could tell people how close you are to loading.... but of course... make it ANTI-SPAM... lol

I think haveing most things as Ctrl + Clickable would be great... because you never know when things will come in handy... hehe...

Very useful in PvP when you're lagging like mad. Being able to ping your "connection" button would allow people to see that you're not standing still for the fun of it

this would get rid of some of the leachers the are "laggin so bad" but as soon as that shard or w/e drops with their name on it they are "magically" better

This is just a thought (I don't know the answer this is a real question) if the person is lagging bad enough to need to ping this...would the ping even go through? Although like commander said, you could use it to test people who claim to be lagging *shrug*.

I think this is needed. Sometimes ppl quit because they have to in a team. This can explain it better.
Example
My connection is very bad!
We should go to town and try agian.
/resign
*Leave*
Redo

Sometimes my tanks quit like this.

there isn't a high demand for this but it doesn't hurt as long as people do not spam it.

How can you you use -image as the usual link, as it closes guild wars once its finished the download/decompress ?

As to the topic of this thread, I can't see any problem with it apart from people spamming it, which is a problem that is best fixed on all ctrl-clicks at the same time.
